2012 Bulls

We have 10 bulls at home and 6 bulls at the Michigan bull test. Three of the bulls at home will be offered at the MSU Beef Expo on March 31, 2012. The bull test bulls will be sold on March 17, 2012 at Crystal, MI. These bulls were born between January and March of 2011. Each will have a breeding soundness evaluation and will be ready for service.

Y26 is a long, deep bodied Networth son. He was born February 2, 2011 out of a Blackcap cow. He will be sold at the MSU Beef Expo in East Lansing, March 31.

Y84 is a January 11, 2011 Bismarck son. He is a growthy bull from the Lucy family. He will be at the MSU Expo in March.

Y30 is a February 4, 2011 Bismarck son out of the herd sire producing Forever Lady family. Y 30 is offered at the farm.

96 is a high growth, long-sided herd bull prospect. He is a Tradition son.

All bulls have passed a reproduction test and are ready to service your cows. These bulls are mature enough to handle a good number of cows.

X 205 is a granddaughter of ForeverLady 7120. The sire is BC Raven. DOB: 1-21-10

X206 is from the Rita cow family. The sire is Net Worth. DOB: 1-22-10

Bull X119 is from a cow out of Traveler 004. The sire is EXAR 263C. DOB: 3-23-10

9169 is from Traveler 004 on the dam side. The sire is Midland. DOB: 1-11-09

She has a Bismark heifer born 2-11-11 at 74 pounds.

We will be showing and selling 2 heifers, 1 bull and a cow/calf pair in East Lansing on April 1&2, 2011.

Fairs

Natalie Huntoon won Reserve Champion at the Jackson County Fair. He was a Northern Improvement out of a Mossy Oak dam. She shared her moment with Ed, Paul and Jeannine Dawson. Nice work Natalie!

The 2010 Calhoun County Fair was Makayla Baker's first time showing at a fair. She won Reserve Champion with this Irish Whiskey calf. Way to go Makayla!!!

We had 4 calves show at the fair this summer. Two won Reserve Champion ribbons. We were very pleased with those results. The 4H kids all put in a lot of time and effort.

Summer

It is a little foggy this morning. When it clears the temperature is predicted to rise to about 90.

Bull 31 is a sample of the 2010 bull crop.

She is a pure angus heifer who posed nicely for her picture.

This steer is a son of the Charolais bull, Yellowjacket.

This Heat Wave steer is a maternal brother to the 2009 grand champion steer in Calhoun County.

This Point Taken little girl is a nice crossbred show heifer.

The calves grow very quickly. By the time photos are taken and posted, the calves have grown even more.

The bulls have been sold at the MSU bull test and the MSU Expo. We were pleased with our bulls performances at the test station. All sold in the top half of the sale. Our Crossover bull at the Expo was one of the top selling Angus bulls of the day. Our bulls at the Indiana bull test (also, in the top half of the sale order) will be sold this week, April 15 at 6:00p.m. You can see the sale on DVAuction by calling 402 649 3172. Bull Update

The 4 bulls at the MSU bull test are doing well. The 84 day report just came out. They are averaging 3.5 pounds per day on the test. They range from 3.04 to 4.08 pounds gained per day. The Total calf is the fastest gainer. He weighs 1315 at 12 months of age. The calves taken to Indiana bull test were taken as a get. Each was sired by Total. On the 62 day report, the 3 bulls averaged 3.72 pounds per day while at the test. They ranged from 3.43 to 4.05 pounds per day. We have 5 bulls for sale on the farm. There is one fall bull (16 months). He is sired by Prestined and the dam is our donor cow from the SAV Forever Lady 57D family. The other 4 bulls are from 10 to 12 months old. Their sires include Total, BT Crossover, 1407 and Dream On (a simmental bull).

Bull Tests

We arrived at the Michigan bull test on Saturday, October 17. It will be our winter home. After the auction in March, we'll have a new home. We will be competing with all the other bulls. Last year we had a brother who placed number 1 at the bull test. We hope we can do well, too.

We are getting ready to go to the Indiana Bull test on Tuesday, October 27. We were all sired by TC Total. Our weaning weights were between 838 and 896 pounds. We gained between 3.48 and 3.61 pounds per day.

Calhoun County Fair

Naomi Carr showed this calf. She won grand champion at the Calhoun County Fair in August. The judge, Chantel, Holt and Paul are there to congratulate her. Way to go Naomi!!!!!!

Jackson County Fair

Natalie Huntoon showed her steer and received a first in her class. Great job, Natalie!

Shane Esham received the Dawson Award steer. Shane received a bottle baby in October. The steer weighed in at the fair at 1570 pounds. Great work Shane!

Andrea and Zach Miles each earned a first in their classes. Yea!! Way to go!

Jackson County Fair was great! Out of the 5 Dawson bred steers at the fair, 3 received a first place.

2009 Calves are growing

BF Tradition 8702 is working on our farm as a clean up bull. He was born 1/19/08.

This BT Crossover baby was born March 14, 2009.

This March 13 calf is crossbred to Irish Whiskey.

This Total calf was born January 21, 2009.

Bull Test and Expo Results

The Sitz Tradition daughter was the Division 3 champion female which sold at the Expo

13 month old Lutton bull sold at the Expo

Our bull at the bull test in Crystal, Mi was the number 1 indexing bull at the test. At the MSU Expo, one heifer got a third, our bull got a second and the other heifer won champion female for her division.

DF Supreme Lady 8141 is a Sitz Tradition RLS 8702 daughter. She will be shown and sold at the MSU Expo April 3 & 4.

New Donor Cow: Boyd's Forever Lady 6097

She comes from the program of Boyd's and Express Ranches. She is the daughter of the $225,000 Boyd Forever Lady 7120 by the Schurrtop MC 2500 . The Grandam is the famous SVF Forever Lady 57D.
